I’ve been busy

Remember way back in march when I told you about the new data center I was supposed to design?

What? You don’t remember that? Well, I guess I did post it on my other site, (you know… the one I never EVER update any more) but lets pretend I posted it here (and that you remember it) and we’ll continue along.

The data center I designed has been built, and we’re moving servers into it. In fact, we’ve been doing that for the past week and will be done by the end of this week.

Here’s some photos (click the thumbs to enlarge, mouse over for a description):

Looking into the data center from the hallway (yay... glass walls)More of looking into the giant fishbowlThe hallway that has the window... reminds me of something from StarGateSG1A rat's nest of wiresA look at the front of the racks from inside the data centerWhy... who's that handsome man in the middle? He's dreamy! The control room... it looks cool all lit upDo not touch this button!!!Guess what... my manager touched it. We lost all power for 20 minutes. Oops!My new cubicle. The place I will spend 1/3 of my life until I die.Mind control devices!! They're everywhere in the building!

There’s still plenty to do. I have to clean up the rats nest of wires (so they’re all bundled and pretty and stuff), and we have to get all the extra junk out of there, install monitors in the control room (that big black thing full of holes for monitors), etc.  I did buy a cool 46″ LCD display for the big cabinet in the center.

We also have to pack up our crap… they’re moving our cubes to the new building this friday.

Busy, busy, busy!

That is one fancy schmantzy data centre alright.

Them there mind control devices look like freaky bird feeders. What ARE they? You may require a tinfoil hat.

Security told me that those mind control devices are actually speakers for the PA system.

    Yeah… right.

Even if they are… all day long they’ll play a recording at a low volume (as to not be compelely obvious, but you’ll still hear it).

“Alpha children wear grey They work much harder than we do, because they’re so frightfully clever. I’m really awfuly glad I’m a Beta, because I don’t work so hard. And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don’t want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They’re too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly colour. I’m so glad I’m a Beta.”

Did you also have a strikingly similar red door release button in the old cnoc? In our old server room, the door release looks the same, and is placed right by the door.

Yes, its been pressed twice now, shutting off ALL power to our data center. Of course this was prior to now-installed high security measures illustrated in the picture (=piece of paper).

I should mention this was pre-server move. The piece of paper has been an iron fortress of protection since then.
