We’re on!
It’s monday… with a vengance.
The boston trip has been up in the air since my last post. I had to purchase the tickets on Friday, then this morning, I was told it most likely wasn’t going to happen. My manager asked that I put a stop-ship on the servers (too late… they went out the door on friday) and to not order the software.
Now it’s back on again.
So… the servers are ordered and will actually be in Boston tomorrow, but I still have to get a few software packages. They have to be ordered and in my hot little hands by Friday, or I’ll find myself sitting in Boston with nothing to do until they show up there.
Software to get:
- Oracle 9i (aprox $46,360)
- Redhat ES v3 (three coppies) ($399 each with 1 year support)
- BEA Weblogic 8.1, SP 3 ($8,470 with 1 year support)
- Visual Mining – Netcharts EJB version 4.0 ($14,400 annual fee)
Oh… did I mention that this trip is a project that came directly from the CEO? Failure is NOT an option.
No pressure!
3 commentsI’m a travelin’ man…
We have a mission critical project coming down the pipe at work right now. It’s woth a lot of money and has to be done on a very, VERY tight schedule. It also comes straight down from the CEO of the company, so failure is not an option.
It fell in my lap.
So I’ve been going crazy nuts trying to get it all together: purchasing software, servers, figuring out the network configuration, etc.. No pressure here.
This also involves a trip to Boston to get it all set up. It looks like I’ll be flying out later this month. The cool part of this is: I may be there durring St. Patrick’s day (March 17th). Boston is about the most Irish city in the USA, so that could be very fun!
I also plan on taking a tour of a brewery while I’m there. Most likely I’ll hit the Boston Beer Company (makers of Samuel Adams) because I like their beer and it’s only 4 miles from the site I’ll be working at. With a little luck, I’ll have some free time when they offer tours.
Hopefully, I’ll have my schedule figured out by the end of the week.
UPDATE
After speaking with my manager this morning, if this project does indeed get approved (we’ll find out tomorrow), I’ll be in Boston on the 13th and return on 21st.
w00t!!
4 commentsIt’s webcam goodness!
I brought the cam in with me this morning and we’re live.
You now suffer the pain I do by living vicariously though my mundane existence!
Yay, you!
Don’t expect anything too damn exciting… I’m at work, and you’re staring at the back of my lumpy head.
The cam should be on most of the time, but you can only expect to see me monday – friday, from 8am till 5pm. Of course, I’m not in my cube all day, so you’ll see me less. You could also see me at any other time if a system has blown up in the wee hours of the morning.
So… the easiest way to see if I’m here is to look at the cam. If I’m not in the picture, look at the time/date stamp is shows on the bottom of the image. If it says something like “saturday” or “6:00 pm”, then I’m probobly not here, and you can stop looking.
If you see anyone from our housekeeping department eating the pop-tarts I keep in my cube drawer, let me know!

An old favorite of days gone by is soon to return to the blog.
I took my sons to the computer store last night so they could buy some computer games with the gift cards they had received for christmas. While we were there, I noticed that the Creative Webcam Live! Ultra was on sale for $80.
I had an Intel Pro webcam for a number of years and used to do live feeds to one of my other websites. Unfortunately, when the computer room was being moved to the main floor of my house (to make it easier for me to get to after my back surgery), it got dropped.
So… the live feed will begin again shortly. I just have to make a few decisions on where to put it (at work or at home) and when to run it. I’m leaning toward the “at work” part as I’m not on my computer much at home any more. Of course, this means that you’ll probably get to watch of the back of my head on most days, but oh, what an exciting view it’ll be!
If you collect the images, you’ll be able to see the bald spot on the back of my head grow over time.
