I dreamed a little dream

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything of actual content.

My brain is muddled by narcotics and it’s rather difficult to write about much of anything in a logical way. So… I shall write today about the side effects of thus said narcotics: Morphine.

Morphine makes your dreams rather vivid if not completely odd. Here’s an example:

Yesterday, during my mid-morning nap, I dreamt that I was at come kind of children’s carnival. We were trying to get everything set up before the kids got there (the games, the cotton candy, etc.). There was a stage set up and on the stage was Steven Tyler, lead singer of Aerosmith. He was the headliner of the entertainment, and was practicing on a stage, surrounded by children in brightly colored inflatable costumes (a blue star, a green circle, and a red triangle… dancing around him).

The odd thing was… he was practicing lip-syncing, but there was no music, so it was just him, moving his lips and swaying his hips while the inflatable kids were dancing around him… silently.

Then, someone’s dog took a crap on the floor and I had to clean it up.

I have no idea what any of that means… but it stuck with me after I awoke.

Just a quick note

I had my rhizotomy yesterday.

Oh… the good times that was!  While normally, it’s not exactly pleasant, the doctor’s finger slipped on the controls of the machine that sends a charge through my body at one point, causing me to arc up in pain.

I think he apologized about 50 times.

Anyway…. I’m pretty sore today, but hopefully that’ll pass.  It’s my hope that this will get me off the narcotics and back to work soon.

I’m not dead, just floating

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. I’ve not had much to say, nor have I much felt like going online.

Every day is pretty much the same around Casa de Tone. I wake up in the morning, take my drugs, fall asleep for a few hours, wake again, take more drugs, fall asleep again, wake a third time, take drugs….. you get the idea. Not very exciting or conductive toward finding content to post.

Today, however, there is something worthy of mention. My eldest son finally got a job! He starts today at the local Sonic, so if you go there for a burger… he could well be the kid making it. They’re pretty cool about his going to college and are more than willing to work his schedule around that. While he’s only getting paid minimum wage, I believe that’s $8.07 an hour… which should be stupid amounts of money for him! (my first job paid $1.25 an hour… how times have changed!!)

As for my back… I’m all scheduled to have surgery on the 20th of this month at 8:00am. Oh man… I’m soooo looking forward to that <insert sarcasm here>. With a little luck, it will help with the pain and get me off the narcotics and back to work (where I desperately want to be!).

I’d post more, but the narcotics are kicking in and I’m getting that fuzzy, sleepy feeling all over my body.

Goodbye 2007, hello 2008!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. Sadly, all I do now that I’m at home on disability is sleep (taking a handful of narcotics every few hours will do that to you).

Christmas was good at Casa de Tone! We had most of the family here for the event, good food and spirits all the way around!! I also did very well in the present department. My favorite gift is the Ion USB turntable. That combined with the newest version of Spin It Again software = me ripping records to mp3 like a mad man! (and they sound damn good too!!).

Our plans for New Year’s Eve are pretty basic this year. We’re avoiding all the parties and plan on just staying at home. We’ll watch whatever is on the tube and have our obligatory glass of something bubbly at midnight… then we’ll fall asleep. Oooooo… the excitement of it all!

Oh, and for those who are wondering (or even care for that matter), I had injections into the facet joints of my spine at L4-L5 on the 21’st. For those who aren’t familiar with this: they take a damn log needle, shove it into your back until they hit bone, then wiggle it until it gets between the bones. Then they inject a steroid and local anesthetic into you. I had both sides done, so it was double the fun! It seems to help somewhat, so I’m scheduled to do it again in early February. I have some images of the procedure and will post them later (once I’ve un-hooked my Ion Turntable and hooked my scanner back up).

If that works out, they are going to perform a rhizotomy in that area. Basically, they go in and burn the nerves off in the area that’s causing me back pain. Anything that will get me off the drugs and back to work sounds like a good plan to me!

But that’s enough of that! Here’s a comic from one of my favorite online strips, Cyanide and Happiness:

Cyanide and Happiness toilet humor

Here’s wishing the best in 2008 to all of you!
